Was dropping off a friend out in North Pole the other day and there was a guy with a nice '56 parked in his driveway. Of course, I got out to take a look at his pickup. It was pretty cool -- he had dropped the body onto a shortened mid-70's 3/4-ton frame and installed a 460. He said he lived just up the road, and asked if I wanted to check out his fleet.
In addition to 3 other 56 F-100's awaiting restoration, he walked me through the woods out into a nearby field. Parked in the field were two '56 F-600's. They looked to be in very solid shape for the most part. One is in running condition, apparently. They are a long way from nowhere, but if anyone is interested they are for sale he said.
COOL GALLERY-AK!! I wonder how many miles away it would be from Fairbanks? It would be so cool to say--yea I bought these 2 56s up on the north pole!!!hahahaha---I would be interested and need to find out more--I always wanted to go to north pole!!BILL
Cool trucks! I can imagine all sorts of interesting things to do with those.
Fairbanks is a million miles away from most of us, though.
My Navy unit went up to Alaska last year and we were amazed at how long it took to get up there, and once up there, we couldn't get over how big that state is. And that's the perspective from 20,000ft.
I can't imagine how the distance feels driving the Alaskan highway...
That's one beautiful state, though. Pardon the non-truck picture, but here's a look for those that haven't been up there. It's an amazing place.

Walford,
Fairbanks is only about 15 miles from North Pole, but you being in Ohio makes it a good 6-day drive at the least. Shoot me a pm with your questions and/or contact info and I'll fill you in on the trucks and the drive.

Rob,
That is one of the coolest photos ever! I saved it as my background. Do you remember where it was taken (approximately, and not giving up national security)?

From my USAF Days I can tell you that most of the State looks like that.
What looks like an airplane in the middle of the picture is really a Baby Mosquieto.
AK Fifty three, that picture was taken about 6 miles northwest of Mount Hesperus in the Alaska Range, about 125 miles west of Anchorage. Its in the Stony Military Operating Area (MOA).
Send me a PM with your email and I'll send you a full resolution copy of it (about 2 meg) if you want.
4tl8Ford, yep, the Hornet does look pretty small in there! You must have been a bomber guy!
