Kevin, there's no words but just know that other guys are praying for you, your family, and your dad. Keeping busy and confiding in friends are the best ways I've ever found to deal with tragedy like this. Let us know if there's anything we can do.
My father-in-law had lung cancer a few years ago and did the same . My family and church will pray for you and your family. You need to talk with some family members or preacher. This is a tough time as both my father and mother have passed, I know about the lost feelings. chuck
I'm sory to here about your dad. I hope I can help with some of your wiring. The red wire gos to the sol. hot with the battery. The purple gose to the ( I ) ign. on the sol. I'm not shere about the generator sory.
I am so very sorry to hear about your dad, Kevin. I don't even know what to say. I've lost 2 friends in the last couple of years to suicide, one of them a very close one. It's bewildering, and impossible to make any sense of. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we will be praying for you and all of your family.
As far as the wiring, I'm no help with the generator, mine's got an alternator. I'll do some looking and see if I can help sort it out for you, though.
I'm pretty certain about the other two, though. The red solenoid wire powers the whole EZ21 and does go to the battery side post of your solenoid. Don't forget to run it from the fusebox through the ammeter and THEN out the firewall (if you're configured that way). Also put that fusible link in the package on the solenoid end to get it all protected from frying.
The purple ign switch start wire goes to the small "S" post on your solenoid. It's the one that goes live when you hit the starter button and energizes the solenoid to the starter.
Sorry, I can't quite figure out the generator vs. alternator issue, but here's a guess. I think the red Alt Power wire goes to the B (or battery) terminal of the voltage regulator. I don't think the White excitor wire is used as the generator has permanent magnets in it. The voltage regulator just wires up to the generator F to F, A to A, ground to ground. Wish I had a good schematic of the EZ, I don't, so I'm making an educated guess from the Ford schematic. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along soon.
I'm also pretty certain that the ign. goes to the S terminal, not the I. The I is not critical, but is the 12V output to the coil that short-circuits past the resistor during cranking. Since yours is internally resisted not sure how that works unless there's an "unresisted" terminal on the coil. The remainder of the time (not cranking) it's 6V through the resistor to prolong the life of the points. I added the jumper from the I post to the Bat. side of the coil bypassing the ballast resistor.
The pink coil positive wire goes to the "Battery" side of the coil. It's the one that'll go through the resistor and thus supply 6V continuously to the coil when you're running.
Kevin I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Words alone can't heal the pain you are feeling. Time will help but you will always miss him. It is good that you did have a few last weeks together with him helping you with the truck. My and my family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Kevin, we are so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. I cannot put into words what I felt like when my Dad passed away, but I can say thay it's been 5 long years and I still miss him. I'm glad you got to work together the last few weeks and spend some quality time. Keep your head up and remember we are all thinking of you.
Jeff
Kevin, I am sure that none of us can truly feel your pain. Our thoughts at this time are with you and your family.
I have enjoyed reading your posts but this one was a very hard one to read. Your can do attitude and enthusiasm is somewhere between energizing and exhausting. The fact that your Dad helped you with the truck is a huge plus. Finish the truck and hang onto it and the memories that you had working together on it.
