volare questions

I need to know a couple of things about the volare front suspension under my 56 . I've had three trucks before this one , but my memory ain't what it used to be. First , what did a volare have for the brake hose to mount to ? Was it a removable bracket that could be used on my 56 frame , or just a hole in the unibody? I.m talking ,of course, about the opposite end from the caliper . Second , what did they use to lock the spindle nuts in place ? My spindles have no holes for a cotter key . The nuts on my spindles are thin . Did they use two on each spindle , jammed together , with a washer in between, maybe? Thanks

I made my own bracket to hold the brake hose in place out of some flat stock and just welded it to the frame and drilled a hole in itThen simply locked it in place with a clip.
The spindle nut is held in place with a sort of metal cover with teeth that fits over the nut and then the cotter pin locks in the teeth of the cover.I hope you know what I mean.I'ts hard to explain but this will probably jog your memory.

I modified and used the original Ford brackets to hold the Volare brake hoses on my 48 F-3...kept them in the same place.

I have only seen about 4,000 spindles in 35 years of brake work and never a 2wd front spindle without a hole for the cotter pin. That would be a new one. Let us know what you do or find out. Jon
