I have been tracing the wires on my donor engine and it looks like one of the ignition switch wires goes to the ecc. On the 64 switch I believe that one of the wires goes to the coil whcih I believe will still be necessary for the switch or will that wire go to the ecc and then the ecc sends the voltage to the coil?
What year car or truck did you get the fuel injection system? And what pin does this wire from the ignition go to? Here's a mustang fuel injection system for 1989-90.
It shows pin 38 receiving power, but in this case it comes from the eec relay.
You are correct, the coil needs it own power source. If you look in the diagram above on the right side, you will see the switch feeds the coil and the dist module.
the motor is out of an 89 marquis. Maybe I can just splice into the wire on the 64 ignition that normally feeds the coila and feed the eec aslo. Thanks for the diagram.
I see some things that don't seem to jive in this diagram, so I think if I were you, I would go to www.helminc.com and see how much a genuine Ford diagram costs. You might also find a manual or diagram on ebay.
I have been looking at a shop manual on ebay. I wonder if a 87 would work for an 89?
The Shop Manual is not going to give you much in the way of a diagram and some wire colors would have changed from 87 to 89. What you need is an 89 E&VTS manual (easy to read) or an 89 wiring diagram (hard to read for the beginner).

I am also not sure I understand what you want to know.
The answer to one of you questions above is NO, the power does not come from the EEC to the coil.
The EEC has nothing to do with the ignition system while cranking except for monitoring the PIP pulse train so it can turn the fuel injectors back on after the one-second time out.
After the engine starts it monitors the PIP pulse train for information on the crank shaft position so it can send a SPOUT pulse to change the spark advance and fire (ground) the injectors at the right time. It also checks on the signal from the Ignition module to the coil.
After tracing some more wires this morning I found the wire that runs from the ignition to the coil. So I guess I will hook that wire up to the 64 ignition and then it should supply power to the coil. I also need to find the wire that goes to the starter solinoid.

I have a fuel injection book that has different models in it, and after seeing how some of the pins have different jobs for year to year and tranny to tranny, I chickened out and said he should have a better diagram.
I am assuming he is putting a fuel injected engine in a old 64 pickup, and if I was doing that, it would be nice to have the rest of the diagrams too that showed the ignition switch wiring. I am afraid he is going to tie all his hot wires to one terminal on the ignition switch, and I don't have the rest of the diagram to see if that will work or not.
Can you give us a little more information?
Are you going to try and use fuel Injection on the motor?
Is the motor have a complete wiring harness on it?
Are you going to use an ECU/EEC/PCM Computer?
And all of the relays and fuel pumps?
Do you have the engine compartment harness with relays?
What ignition system are you using?
Bill is the closest. It is an eec. I have everything and plan on using it. After tracing some more wires today. I found my ignition switch wire going to the coil and the hot yellow coming from the battery so things are looking up.
What size engine are we working with?
And a 1989 Marquis has a Dura Spark II Ignition System.
The same Ignition System as 1983 F150.
The 1989 Marquis may also have a carburetor if it is the 5.8 engine.
They did in 1991 as I have a 1991 E&VTS Manual for a Crown Vic & Grand Marquis.

I take it this is not a California Sedan this motor is out of.
This is an 89 Marquis with a fuel injected 5.0. It is a four door out of Ne. I have the engine pulled and have been tracing and labeling wires since last fall. Today I finally got every thing marked as well as I could. My biggest challange is that I want to use the oem cruise control on it. I already have my 64 set up for a 5 liter and it has a C6 tranny behind it. I welded a 77 front axle under it a couple of years ago so I have the disk brakes and power steering on it. The current steering wheel is also out of the 77 donor I got the front axle out of. I have been reading and collecting a lot of articles. I hope in two weeks to pull my old engine out of the 64. It is a carburated engine.
I plan on using the tag and tab solinoids and everything else but the smog pump. I hope to hook the check engine light up. I am not sure about the carbon canister yet. I have a fuel pump off of an 89 ford efi van and have read some articles about how to make the behind the seat gas tank work. Hopefully when I start hooking the wires up in the 64 everything will come together. I am just trying to plan ahead.
I would think that all of the diagrams I have for the 91 Marquis would work then.
I take you are going to hook up the TAD & TAB (tag?) solenoids electrically and not use any vacuum lines on them to just satisfy the EEC Computer.
