while reassembling the cab after a paint job, we noticed that some attachment holes are on both sides of the dashboard, near the upper door hinge, between the lower side of the headliner and the kickpanels. Seems that there might have been a trim piece of some sort? Any idea what could be missing??
Another question: What was the reason why only the passenger door has a key lock and there is none on the driver side??
The age old question of the door lock on the pass side...some say for safety...i/e you would have to exit the pass side door away from traffic, some say (for safety again) you hae to enter from the pass side.

I was told back in the day most states had a law against exiting the vehicle into the street when parked, which in most cases was on the drivers side. If you ever noticed in a lot of the old 40's movies, they always slid accross the seat to get out on the passenger side.

I recently installed one of Bob Drakes "driver side lock kits" in my 40 coupe, very nice kit. $200 is a lot just to be able to open the drivers door with a key, but I like it. I have had several 40's in the past and disliked the only key being on the pass side.
