2003 speedometer tachometer question when starting?
Hello:
I have a 2003 EB Explorer...and I am a first time Ford owner. This morning as soon as I started the truck...the speedometer and the tachometer went all the way to the right for about 5 sec. and then returned to normal, then the rest of the guages came on. Is this normal? This is the first time I have seen this. It was very cold out this morning. Seems like it was a calibration thing. Any insight would be appreciated.
I'm not sure on the Explorer, but on the Expedition I used to have the full sweep of the gauges indicated a computer reset. It could have been caused by harder cranking due to the cold pulling the battery voltage low, causing the computer to reset. On the Expedition, this symptom showed up just a couple of days before the battery failed. Keep an eye on it, if it doesn't happen regularly you should be OK, or you could have the battery and charging system tested just for peace of mind.
