I have the link for the .doc file explaing the belt replacement and I also have the Haynes manual. However, it appears I may be in over may head a bit. I know I'm not an idiot and I do damn near everything on my Mustang and the Ranger, but this is kicking my ***.
The belt broke while driving so getting it off wasn't an issue.
Do I need to take the inner timing belt cover off or will pulling the crank shaft pulley assembly off give me enough access to get the belt on the crank shaft sprocket?
Which leads me to the next question.
How do I get the crank shaft pulley assembly off?

You do not need to remove the rear cover. You do need to remove the pulley. It is not a press fit, but damn close to it. Usually a couple of long screwdrivers or pry bars behind each side of the pulley are sufficient for removal or lightly tapping with a hammer. Don't bend the pulley, it is easy to do. If it is stuck, you will need a puller. jd
I removed the actual pulley, but the part it is attached to (appears to be a balancer possibly) is what I can't get off. It has a 7/8 nut in the center holding it fast to the crank shaft sprocket. It seems that if I don't remove it then I can't get my belt on.
And I just broke the damn thing try to keep it from turning the crank while I was attempting to loosen the nut.

I had a hard time getting the crank shaft bolt out, 110psi air gun would not budge it. I ended up putting the trans in 4th and wedgeing a pry bar in the front ujoint and got it with a 18" breaker bar and 2 ' section of pipe on that.

That's pretty much how I ended up breaking part off a piece of the pulley mounting surface.
I can't believe such a relatively simple task has turned into such a burden.
