Has anyone used POR paint products on their trucks? My truck has a lot of surface rust that keep bleeding through the primer (I guess I'm not getting it all and off and not putting on a thick enough coat). I was thinking about using the POR primer and then coating the primer with some PPG paint. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions? Also how is this new roll on primers I'm hearing about? Has anyone used any of these? I think its made by duplicolor but can be wrong.
nope, haven't used POR....but my truck had a bit of surface rust..just sanded it down and used Rustoleum primer and paint for final finish. This was a college student budget paint job...OK, you can laugh now!!

I used Zero Rust after a though sandblasting. I like it, it sprays on nicely, great coverage with fast drying time and seems to stick ok.
Only time will tell, some of it I will top coat as it`s made for that purpose once it has time to completely dry.
I've used it extensively on my truck. It's too early to tell, hasn't seen any weather or time yet. I was very pleased with the handling of the paint, it looks great, and the media prep guys who blasted the truck say they'll put it up against powdercoating for durability. It's tuff stuff. It perfectly survived the hot tank for some of my suspension parts. I COMPLETELY agree about getting it on your hands. USE GLOVES! If that's any indication, it'll stay on the truck forever. (I'm a surgeon, so having the "Hi, I'll be operating on your child" conversation with your hands looking like you just made mudpies is a little embarrassing...) I have not used it under another paint, though.

I had some parts powdercoated and it was abit of a cost. I wondered if ZR would stand up as well so I`m glad you mentioned this.
Gloves I believe are a must.
I sprayed my truck with chassis saver--same basic principal as por15.They seal off the metal/rust and don't let air get in.I think this is the only way to stop bleed thru if you are not going to do any prep work.Good luck and be careful
I painted the frame of a mid 60's corvette about 4-5 years ago. Used a brush, flowed great. First coat was flat, second coat satin. It is a rust encapsulator. So, it works better if it has something, such as light rust, etc, to hold on to. I used 80 grit on a sanding wheel to rough up the surface. Frame still looks good. As far as the truck, their pamphlet states you should paint over POR-15 on areas that will absorb UV rays. If not painted over, the surface will deteriorate faster. I am going to using POR-15 on my pickup interior. The price was about $30.00 a quart. After thinning, it goes a long way in coverage. Maybe I'll try one of the other products on the exterior just to try something different. Have a great day, Chuck
ROD4Life, what part of the truck are you talking about ??, sounds like you refer to body panels since you speak of primer bleed. The replies refer to chassis and parts. Jon
I have used POR-15 on my chassis but I have not made it much further putting it back together so I don't know how it is going to hold up.
I am using the engine enamel for the engine parts too. But the eninge is still in pieces and it will be another 2 or 3 years before I get far enough to be run the engine to see how it holds up.
And finally, I have their high temperature paint for the exhaust manifolds.
I guess you can say I have sunk my trust in their product but have yet to truly test it.

Thats RIGHT! I heard its tough and was wondering if I should try it out on my truck body! Hey they don't call me crazy Al for nothing!
Just wondering if anyone has used the primers on their body.... or maybe even painted their whole truck body with POR paint! (thats a little crazy... even for me!)
