FTE, Los Angelinos

I'm in need of assistance, in a tick or 2, I believe, as I might need to replace my H.D. Bumper & Right Front Fender. I've already a S.D. Vallance I was planing on exchanging for the one already there.

Some old-bat in a Mitsubishi plowed into me @ 40+mph while I was in the process of making a Left-turn @ Rowland St. onto Grand Ave., Covina, bashing in the front bumper & down @ a 45* angle, also shoving my right-front fender & vallance up & under almost jamming them into my tire.

I was sitting in the middle of the intersection waiting for my turn to go, the light went yellow, there was no on-coming traffic, I started my turn & she came blowing out of an inclined blind curve fiddling w/ her unfastened seat-belt before she saw I was there, slammed on her brakes & bashed into the "Wee Beastie".
No citation was issued to me, but the Officer states in the report & in his opinion that the collision was 100% my fault because no witnesses came forward to co-oberate my side of what transpired & that I didn't give on coming traffic the right of way.
I've the Standard impact/whiplash damage & its aggrivated my older injuries, so I'm not doing as well as I like @ present.

I was able to drive the "Olde Girl" home after an old gentleman showed up w/ an oak 4x4 & a 10lb sledge to use to give me a tick more distance between my tire & bent under F/V. Father states they can be straightened, but having access to replacement parts would be rather nice. The least expensive the parts, the better.

My cousin is going to help me go over the "Olde Girl" to see what else might be damaged on his next day off.

Thank'ee in advance for any & all assistance.

I'm close by, and have some resources..the only thing I don't know is which beastie you need parts for. There are several speciality F100 outfits around, and I know of a junkyard or two that may have the parts. You can email me direct from FTE if you need my assistance.

I am sorry to hear that you were injured in the accident. Hopefully, it is not too serious. Damaging your baby cannot be good either. I am too far away to help locate the parts you need. I think there are some closer FTE members.

Did you install seat belts in yours? Mine will get them this spring. I have seen pictures of a 56 (on here) that was hit hard in the front. It just seems unsafe in today's fast paced world to not have them.

Also, do you have full coverage insurance like most of us do? We have a set amount if totalled, stolen, etc., but I don't know how well that would work in an accident. Hopefully, I never have to find out. The "full coverage" is not expensive at all for me. It is worth it, even though mine is not a daily driver.

Oh...you forgot (in your stressful time) to put the year of your truck in the thread title. You have two 58 mercury's in your signature. I assume that is the year you are looking for? I can't think of any parts trucks around here of that era.

I'm sorry to hear about your truck and you. It'll get better.

I still can't understand why the L.A. area doesn't have green arrow left turn only lights??? It's seems like every other large metropolitan area has these simple traffic control signals, but L.A. doesn't. I was just in L.A. last weekend and it still bugs me!

Thank'ee for you response.
My "Wee Beastie" is a '58 Mercury M-100, it's in my signiture.
I didn't put the year in the header because of All the Flack I received in the past about it.
That would be Great to actually know Where some of these yards are these days, as all the ones around here that had any for the '57-'60 Orphans Years are no longer in existance.
Sending you a P.M.

Uh...hey guys..we do have tens of 1000's of right turn green arrows here. But, not all signals have them. LA is one of the safest cities to cross the street, cuz pedestrains have the right of way here...one reason there are not more green arrows in major metro traffic areas. Try crossing the street, without getting run over in NYC, Boston or Chicago.

This place isn't that backward!

Very kind of you B.B., jus the standard Whiplash & exaserbating of the olde injuries from doing Stuntwork, so far as I'm able to tell. I'll know more once I get back from the Urgent Care today.

Yes, yes I did. It was the very 1st thing I did when Father turned her over to me. I actually found while researching that FoMoCo offered from '58-'63, if I remember correctly, a 3-point belt, but it wasn't popular, so it was dropped. It was based off the one that Volvo offered during those years.

So sorry to hear of your accident, I hope you will be alright and back to normal as soon as possible. I hope you don`t end up with any severe pain or more bad aches/pains, certainly nothing that`s permanent.
It`s too bad also on the 58, hope you can find suitable parts in good conditon to fix it, that will be easier to fix than your body.
Keep us posted when you get back later today if you are able to.
Too bad you are not able to get the Manitoba panel back yet, some day it will happen for you and I hope the seller will be helpful till this happens.
Take care of yourself and don`t over do it, we need you back in good form.

Thank'ee kindly for your good thoughts.

I've jammed my R. Shoulder & Ankle from bracing for the impact, as well as pulled muscles in the neck & back. The P.A. gave me 350mgs of Soma, shades of Orwells "1984", & 800mgs of Ibuprofen.
N.D. thinks he's got a bumper & fender located already,quick work that.
I just hope it's an H.D. bumper to replace the one destroyed by the Olde-bat.
It seems the reason that the "Olde-girl" came out a lot better than she should've is the Fact the the H.D. bumper took the Majority of the impact even though it was an Angled hit.
I just love 1/4" channel iron.

Have to contact the P.O. soonest to see what's going on.

Colonel, this is good news and thanks for the quick up date.
I hate to think what would have happened in going without a front bumper but it maybe have a little easier on you if it was a softer impact due to more give in the front sheet metal...
I hope the shoulder & ankle as well as pulled muscles in the neck & back do not cause too much pain and ehal as quickly as possible.
Be sure to give us more updates as soon as there is any please and take care.

Col.

I have a 59 bumper and grille in Little rock, Ar. if things don't work out with others.

Hope you are recovering, and will heal quickly.

You have to, the wee beastie needs you

Y'all both get well soon.
