main bearing wear

main bearing wear

my recently rebuilt 77 302 i pulled the rear main bearinq to do the main seal for some reason it was leaking but any way. the bearing has wear only on the top corners the middle of the bearing is a silvery color and the two top corners are copper soo i pulled the next one same thing .and the next shoed no wear at all so i dont know whats going on is does this sound like normal wear .oh the crank bearings are 10 over and the jornals are in great shape this is a freshley rebildt motor yet is showing signs of wear .what do u guys think .thanks for sny replies

so should i replace them or just because copper is showing doesnt mean i need to replace them .???

if it's showing copper and was recently rebuilt then you have some problems....
My guess is it was rebuilt years ago and is just worn out......

Get some plastic gage and check the clearance, appearence of copper is not an indicator of a bad bearing. The flashcoating of babbit is less than .001 and is there to provide a soft surface for inital conformity to the shaft. It is your engine and your wallet, if the clearances are ok and it was mine it would be going down the road. kotzy
