Hello, I have a 1990 ford ranger ,last week the oil pump went out,we put the truck in the shop and the oil pump was replaced with a new one.. truck ran fine for a few days, now i hear a clicking noise when I am driving it.. and the gage goes all the way to L and i have to park ,turn the motor off, wait a few moments and start it back up.I am able to drive a few blocks before it looses pressure again... could the screen be clogged? what should I do?it has plenty of oil in it because I checked it before i left and it registered as full.any advice would be appreciated..
Thank You
Lissa
Was the pan pulled clear off and out of the truck when the pump was replaced? What caused the original pump to fail, there really isn't much to go wrong with them usually it's something in it that causes problems so was it full of junk that maybe wasn't cleaned out of the pan, or gasket material that got left into the pan? Yes your problem sounds like a plugged screen to me.
not sure what caused the original one to fail, when my friend replaced the pump for me he said he pulled the pan out of the truck and cleaned it,he also said he cleaned the screen for me and did a complete oil change, was there something he may have overlooked??????? I dont have an oil leak, because i placed a piece of cardboard under the truck and it showed no signs of a leak
try changing your oil filter! a clogged filter will also do that, use a motorcraft or purolater anything just not a fram. The oil pump replacement and GOOD oil pressure could have loosened up a good bit of gunk that is now in the filter.
