I wouldn't think that this would be much different than any other engine swap. You should pick up a shop manual for the truck if you don't already have one. I have both the Haynes and the Chilton manuals, and they're ok, but you might want to go on ebay and get a factory manual on DVD. Whichever manual you use, read through the steps several times before you start work.

One of the things you'll need to think about in advance is the A/C compressor. You'll either have to get an A/C shop to remove the refrigerant, or determine if an engine can go in and out if you unbolt the compressor and set it aside in the engine compartment. Be careful, though - you don't want to damage a pressurized hose and release the refrigerant while you're doing the work. You can get frostbitten and lose your eyesight from contact with refrigerant.

I've never yanked an engine from an Explorer, but hopefully someone who has will chime it. Good luck and be careful!
