Power steering

Ok i looked throught 19 pages in the search and basically understand the swap to power steering on a 66 truck. Almost all the post list an artial on the swap that I can not seem to find. I looked in the artical section and did not see it. I know that I have to switch the colum, uses the ford box too, Find the right Pulleys and brackts. Now since I have a fe do I need to find a different motor pearch too? Also could someone point me to the artical or post the link. If a cant find the motor pearch if needed is there any way around this? Thanks very much.

Engine perch's are the same P/S or not. Why would you need to change them?

The pump/brackets etc mount to the front drivers side of the head.

One thing is important...replace the motor mounts while doing the other work. FE engines are famous for breaking left rubber motor mounts. The engine will rear up and jump forward, taking out the fan shroud, and other things.

ND: The driver's side perch was changed when the Saginaw - Ford - power steering box was introduced in '68 or '69.
The early perch is straight, and sits perpendicular to the frame. This perch can be used with the early Bendix PS gearbox.
The later perch is bolted to the front two perch holes in the frme, rather than the rear two holes, and sweeps to the rear as it stands out from the frame.
This later perch can be used with the earlier Bendix box, but is needed for the later Saginaw. Or, a notch must be cut in the early perch.
Also, the Saginaw box will not mount up if the FE has the butterfly exhaust heat riser valve. The heat riser must be eliminated, too.

One last quick question, can the perch be from a 4x4 truck or only 2 wheel drive. Also are the perches the same for all the v8 motors? thanks

The FE perch is unique, only for FE motors.
And you will need one from a 2x4 - the 4x4 setups are completely different.

As for different motors, there is some interchangability between the 300 six, the 302 and 351W.

The 460 mounts are unique as well.

Don't know about others.

Bill, Sometimes you has to get a little grease under your nails, and you pick up on the little tricks.
