I am working on my 1963 F100 4x4 Stepside, again. I have had the truck over 30 years. I want to change the stepside to a short, wide box but I am having a difficult time finding a one. I would have thought the stepside I have would be rare. Did Ford not make many short wide boxes? Help! Should I keep looking or give up the search?

Reason: Location
Keep looking if you really want one, there are still a few out there, but most
of the ones I have saw are real rough ,because they were used as a truck, and lots of hauling!
P.S. I have an ideal, I don't know if it would work, but pull out the tape
measure and measure a 67-72 wide bed inside diminsions. You may be able to reskin (new bedsides) 61-66. Grafted to the 67-72 bed. The tailgates
will bolt up. Please No Flaming, just and idea! The inter wheel wells (look)
the same also. This ideal would not be a easy answer!

They are out there, there is a rough 65 short wide on craigslist san diego for $1150. Im also on the lookout for a littl ebetter bed than my shorty has, although mine is fixable, just the inside edge between the bulkhead and floor is no longer there!
I think that is typical from the rain holes or lack of them. I need to refloor the entire bed from all the pin hole rust spots and dents. It isn't even worth trying to salvage in my opinion. So in the meantime, there is 1" pressure treated plywood holding it together. I found out how much the floor tightens up the frame from a little less body roll. The plywood is screwed in from the bottom with large washers and the tips ground flush.
Yep, when I redo my leading edge, I plan on incorporating some drainage, then its off to a spray in bed liner. Im out in El Cajon, not to far from you.
Or you can bring down the wrath of every purist out there as I'm certain I did by replacing that rusted hulk with a stake side. My effie has to earn her keep, and the first time I removed a side gate and had the load of whatever off-loaded in one fourth the time, I patted myself on the back. And I can still give her a scrub-down and go on the poker run with the garage queens and hold my head high.
NumberDummy...can you help? Do you have the numbers for how many F100s with a short, wide box Ford made in 64, 65, 66 compared to stepsides?
Your profile says you are a retired Ford Parts Manager. I wonder if you knew my girlfriend's dad. He was Parts Manager for Smith Ford in Garden Grove from 1968 until Campbell Ford bought the dealership and moved it to Trask Ave. His name was Pinky Anderson. His daughter, Becky, is still a die hard Ford fan. It is a good thing I am into Fords or she probably wouldn't have given me the time of day when we met. She still has her first car, she bought in high school...a 1965 Mustang!
