I just purchased a 1938 1 ton pickup. At least i think it is. The last 3 numbers of the VIN is 0IY. According to my book, that means it is a 1940. Body style is 38 and all numbers match on the frame and tranny. Does anybody have any ideas? How many 1 ton pickups were built in 1938? This is my first attempt at a project like this so i am a little green. Any help would be appreciated.
I tried to offer some help for this question in your other post. But I'll try to add more info here. You say the numbers match on the frame and tranny. So, we know the trans has always been with that particular frame. What do the front springs look like? Do they run parallel to the I-beam, or do they run parallel to the frame? The parking brake, does it lock the rear wheels, or does it lock on a drum on the back of the transmission? If you can answer these questions I think I may be able to let you know what you have.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Apr-02 AT 02:38 PM (EST)]The front spring runs parallel to the I beam and the emergency brake locks up the back brakes. Also, the VIN number begins with BB18 if that helps any. I got the numbers off the frame and the bell housing. It sure has me confused! I appreciate your help.
