Carb need to be rebuilt?????????????
When im driving my 47 ford truck down the road about 40mph It starts jerking like it isnt getting the right amount of gas, then it quits .I have to pull over and dump a little gas down the carb ,and it will run for another mile.
When I bought the truck it sat for about two years before I got it,I put some fresh gas in it .The glass bowl was half full of gunk, is there a fuel filter on the carb anywhere ,and should I take the carb in and have it rebuilt,it is a flathead engine, with the orignal carburater.
thanks guys Bill B
Have the carb rebuilt by a professional shop that specializes in old carbs. It probably has a bunch of fine silt in places it shouldn't be and won't come out easily.
Take the gas tank out and have it thoroughly cleaned at a local radiator shop. Replace all gas lines between the tank and the carb.
Install a clear inline filter before your glass sediment bowl and keep a spare on hand. Sediment bowl only removes birds and small animals

I had a similar problem and changing the carb made a big difference, so now I try hard to keep it clean.
