I'm looking at buying a 2006 or 2007 F150 Supercrew 4X2, 139" wheel base, 3.55 rear end, with 20" Pirrelli Tires. I've noticed a slight knock or bump coming from the tires and wheels starting off when test driving a few of these outfits. Is this common or normal? Also, would anyone that has a set up similar to what I've listed tell me what kind of mileage your getting.
I got one of those outfits (screw, 139", with Pirelli 20s) like you're talking about, and no the knock is not normal or common...also when I had 3.55 gears, I was getting about 14 mpg in the city...Now I have 4.10 gears and I've been getting about 13.5 mpg...don't know if that's due to the gears or my foot getting heavier...anyway, good luck with your purchase...
from what I heard/read, those tires are soft and can flat spot when the truck sits for awhile. So you'll feel that until the tires warm up after a few miles.
While the new generation tires should not flat spot. Pirelli is having a problem with it. The 275/45/22 Asimetrico Pirellis on my wife's 2006 Harley F150 do flat spot after a couple of days of sitting. 5-10 minutrs on the HWY and smooth as glass again.
This truck has 3.73:1 and I for sure want to convert to 4:10.1, the tire listed above stands 30" tall. And with the steep overdrive ratio, the truck likes to be 85-90MPH. I would like to bring that down to 80ish. Not to mention the around town performance ennhancement.
I have the 2006 supercrew with the options you mentioned. I have put 8900 miles on so far and have loved every mile. Much of my driving is in heavy traffic so I am averaging 13-14 mpg. I have not tried running ethenol but I have been told the mpg will decrease so I will hold off on that test for now.
I have an '06 4x4 with 3.55's and 20's
Absolutely love my truck; 14.5mpg is average
I do not baby it and have over 30,000 miles now in 12 months
Tires still look great - no problems at all (rotated at 10K and 30K)
