I need questions answered. Recently bought a 65 Galaxie 500 352 engine with Cruiseomatic. I understand that the trans linkage has to be a truck version. However, do I also have a problem with oil filter mounting bracket and also what about engine mount perches? Can I use the passenger car engine mounts with my current V-8 engine perches already in my truck holding up a 302?
Great numbers to have!
The correct truck filter mount is the horizontal one.
The vertical (car) filter mount bolts correctly to the FE block, but the specified filter (FL1 or FL1A) is too long. You cannot install it because the crossmember interferes with it.
If you don't mind using a shorter filter, you can use the vertical mount. I tried it for awhile, but could never remember the correct filter! So, I went back to the horizontal mount.
It is a lot messier, though.
Mitch, let me know if you need one.
John & Bill; thanks for the replies;expescially the photos & parts numbers. I've been viewing trucks with 390's and they seem to have the same clearance as the 352, for which the blocks are the same right?. I also been checking the engine perches, can't tell if my V-8 perches attached to my 302 are the same as the ones I view with 390's in the galleries.
I assume I can't purchase I correct oil filter mount so John; PM me about one of yours if avaiable. Is a 390 mount the same as the 352 oil filter mounts? We got plenty of 390's in local salavage yards.
The FEs (352, 360, 390 the most common) were made to have a lot of things interchangeable - yes, you can use an oil filter mount from any of them.
As for the perches - here goes.
The perches for the 6 cyl and the early FE are the same, but the FE perches are in a more forward set of holes drilled in the frame.
If you wish to install the later power steering with the Ford Saginaw PS box, you will need a driver's side FE perch from a '70 or later. You can tell the difference in the shape. The PS perch is swept back at an angle, to give the PS gearbox more room. The earlier non-PS perch extends straight out from the frame.
