1965 F-350 4x4 Swap
BUT theres a crack soemwhere, coolant is getting into the oil...so...
what do you guys think i should do for a drivetrain?
i got 3 options
1. i have access to a 1979 bronce drivetrain (351M,C-6,NP205 t-case,dana 44 front, and ford 9" rear)
2. i also can buy a 6.9 diesel for $400 to put in my '65, just need to get a transmission for it, and possilbly a rear end to handle the torque
or 3. I can buy an '88 F350 with the 7.3 diesel, whole truck for $500, i can take the drivetrain from that to put in my '65.
Of these three, the 4x4 bronco drivetrain is the most complete, i just have to find a manual tranmssion to bolt up, because i hate automatics
the two diesel options both would need transmissions and possibly a new rear end.
the stock rear end on my '65 is a dana 70...which i think can handle just about anything..
ok...what are your thoughts?
If you do a 4X4 swap, the Bronco stuff is too light for your truck. It is not even as stout as what was used in the F100, and will not handle the weight and use of a F350 - IMHO. I would pass on the Bronco.
Either of the two diesels will work for you, if you want a diesel engine. You would have a better truck if you took your chassis (cab, fenders, and box) and mounted it on one of their frames.
It just sort of depends on what you want in the way of a truck.
if you've got coolant in the oil, I don't think you want to be adding Bar's leak to the radiator and continue running the engine as your oil is contaminated (w/ coolant) and you'll do some ever-lasting damage to the engine (rings, bearings, etc).
Have you done a compression test yet to help determine the head-gasket issue?
Before tossing that FE away..consider the head gasket as the most likely source of milky oil.
