Saskatoon Saskatchewan - Toon Town :) pictures I found today

I collected some pics of saskatoon while i was researching my move there...
I know alot of you guys live out there, but thought id share them anyways...

The rest I stuck on my haulwreck server so im not wasting other peoples bandwidth... http://haulwreck.com/saskatchewan.html

In the pic I took above, can anyone point out the names of some area in it? is that the suburbs/country area in the distance?

thanks and enjoy

Rick

Well I sure can name a lot here for you. This arerial shot is looking out my way.
The country area at the top of the picture is the direction towards Vanscoy, Asquith, Grandora, Delisle.
The skyrise at the bottom of the picture is called Luther Towers. Its a seniors home. The bridge at the right is called the University bridge. Off the picture there is the Royal University hoapital where I have worked at for 25 years.
Next bridge is Broadway Bridge. The steel one further back is the 19th st bridge. The last one is our freeway bridge now called the Senator Sid Buckwold bridge after a former mayor and senator.
You see the downtown core of Saskatoon. The two long streets leading away from the downtown are 20th and 22nd. @nd st is the one that seems to continue into the country. That picture is old and the city has greatly expanded.
Our city seems to be smaller than where you have lived. Every summer we have a cruise weekend that draws cars and trucks from all over western Canada.
Any other pics or question just ask.
In the centre of the picture by the riverbank is the Bessborough Hotel. It was built in the depression and has a castle style about it.

Rumor has it that there are around 800 vehicles attending. Every third year we have The Super Run in Saskatoon which is even better.

so am I close

the cruise weekend and super run sound pretty sweet... what is it? classic cars and trucks of all makes? or is it a blue oval thing? just wondering...
I dont even have a classic right now, well except my 79 bronco, but i am selling that and the protege before i move... i will have to pick something up in saskatoon so that i can take part...
id keep my 79 but it probably wouldnt pass an inspection right away... although its basically in good shape compared to other ones ive seen,,, dosnt even have rust through the floors... alot of the ones ive seen do...
what does it cost to get an inspection done out there, anyone know?

thanks 66gpw, for all the great info... i owe you a favor when i get there

The cruise weekend is classic cars and trucks of all makes unfortunately not just blue oval. Wish it was and I could do without the boombox pink ricers and V-Dubs.....Still not too bad as most are neat vehicles.
The Super Run is real classics, older trucks and real rods, a superior event.
To get an inspection done was around $80 plus needed repairs the last time I had it done about 3 years ago. It is important to watch where a vehicle is taken, some places will gouge by claiming that good parts need replacement when that`s not the case.

Friday and Sat. evenings is a great time to be on 8 Street to watch the cars, rods and trucks cruise and later Sunday evening after the Cruise wraps up is a good time to cruise around.

That photo is't that dated for the direction it poins. Most of the expansion is taking place on the south east and north parts. This photo is pointing west northwest.

Where he has the arrow for the university hospital is actually towards Kinsmen park and the City Hospital. The university hospital is at the top of the bridge. The other hospital is at the bottom. That little barren land is the start of the university lands.
Your compass maybe off a bit. I believe 22nd st there is actually straight west. But I could be wrong also.
Our city is about 300,000 people and not counting the outlying areas that people live and work in the city.
Inspections are now almost $200. There are 2 inspections now. One is body and structural. The other is Mechanical.
The mechanical I beleive in suspension, exhaust,(no emission Test Yet). They want to make sure everything works.
Body they check weatherstripping, for rust , collision damage Glass, doors and windows open and close properly without binding or sagging.
I say bring the Bronco. We can help guide you to places for inspections that are fair and good.
I find half the things on these inspections are bogus. They incorporated highway traffic laws into the inspections, like license plate lights, They use to have you had to have front license plate mounts , but that has been removed now. These things have nothing to do with safety of the car, but they were things in our highway laws they just added them to the inspections.
Bring the bronco and some of us can help with parts needed to get it passed.

I believe that to bring an out of province vehicle in only the mechanical
inspection is required. Am I wrong on that unless the body is rusty or has obvious damage? It seems that half the things on these inspections are bogus.
Bring the Bronco as long as it`s not too rusty, you can bring it into the province but will have to have the inspection done in order to licence it. Sask. licence includes insurance and it`s not too expensive for an old vehicle. We can help to get it passed depending on what work it will need.

well, i already put the bronco in the paper for sale.
If it dosnt sell then I will bring it with me, maybe rent a uhaul car trailer for it, the parts on it alone are worth bringing to me.It has a rebuilt C6 with approx 1000KMS on it only. it has the gear driven steel transfer case, a 205.The very next year they changed to chain driven units made of aluminum, the 205 is as bullet proof as it gets.
it has a 9 inch rear end, and a dana 44 front diff.the 351M dosnt smoke at all, not on start or while running.35 inch BFG AT tires evenly worn with a good amount of tread, they seem to last forever these tires.my tailgate is mint, the windshield is excellent.
The tub is really good except the quarter panels, which can be bought new.The gas tank was recently replaced with a metal tank made in Canada, brand new.I just stuck a brand new starter on it, new wires to the starter, and a new starter solenoid.Brand spankin new truck battery, big 4 core rad in great shape.
It needs doors and fenders, but the strucural part is great, its mostly cosmetic type of stuff that is rough.
First try was asking for some pics of it... I cannot find my camera anywhere, and the wife is out seeing a friends newborn baby that was just brought home.So she might have it, and I only got 45 mins of daylight left LOL

I found 2 pics of it that are pretty recent... and here they are... i know it looks rough but keep in mind, ive seen nice ones, that look nice but all the floors and cab mounts are shot, this one is the opposite, its good where it counts not where it "looks" like its good LOL... the last owner cut the quarter panels out because he said they looked rusty and wanted more room for tires... but man he cut them on an angle upwards to the body area that the trim goes onto... needless to say the truck wasnt cheap, if he hadnt botched it up i might have paid more, and all i bought it for was for doing work around the 2 acres..

bottom pic is the most recnet, pretty much looks the same now, except its covered in snow

I know it dosnt look like much, but its also so hard to find trucks out here where i am now... my last 4 trucks were a k5 blazer, a toyota 4runner, and a mazda ext cab PU,a 74 ford ext cab with a 390, all of which looked alot better LOL

is that compass right?

so the hospital you work at GPW? is it nearer to the bridge where i have it now? I may just leave it with a compass for the website page i use it on...

I started a few pages for now

http://kowalko.com/saskatchewan_information.html
http://kowalko.com/saskatchewan_links.html
http://kowalko.com/saskatchewan_houses.html

not going to make it all fancy, just a source of information as best as i can...

What`s the price on your Bronco? Sounds like it`s worth it to bring it here depending on how much more fuel you`ll need to do that. What`s your tow vehicle?
