flat flange rear fender?

flat flange rear fender?
I am looking for rear fenders for a 46 right now and I found a site that offers reproduction fenders, either flat flange or not. I got my cab off an old flatbed, so I've actually never examined 46 rear fenders. Can someone please explain the what the flat flange is all about? Thanks for the help.

Just guessing, but...
Stock bed sides have a raised panel in the center and the fender flange that bolts up is configured to that raised panel.
Some aftermarket beds, Pro's Pick comes to mind, are completely flat (no raised panel) and so would use a fender with a flat flange.
