unibody options

i am looking at a unibody for sale that has been in the making for a number of years. the owner is very good at fabricating and has added a 1994 corvette rack and pinion and steering components eliminating leaf springs etc in the front. all very nicely done lowering the truck around 5 inches or so in the front. the rear has had a shackles added to lower the rear several inches also. the body is super straight and is not far from painting. one cab mount needs to be boxed in and reinforced as it has some rust issues that have been blasted out but not fixed yet. very minor in the whole scenario. i want to use an ford FE engine with a c6. the owner has mocked up a 351 windsor w/ c4 or 6 and has built mounts around that combination. the owner has modified a factory steering column and shortened the bracket holding it to the dash. i am wondering if it is possible to you the 65-79 type of steering column in this body style and the same type of brake booster master cylinder. by comparing the unibody column placement with a 1966 placement i think the column on the unibody is 1-2 inches inward. has anyone on this forum encountered this? the master cylinder placement on a unibody is likewise moved inward 1-2 inches. i have 1965-1972 automatic pedal assembly as well as a column and brake booster for this swap but i am wondering how plausible it is. this is my first unibody attempt and i can buy this unibody shortbed project for $4000 but i am only interested if i can modify it in this manner. thanks.

You can put whatever column you like in it and put it where ever you like. It was placed in the original location because it was all one piece with the steering box. You probably have u-joints on the steering shaft to connect it to the Corvette rack. Find a nice tilt column you like and place it where it is comfortable and looks good to you.
IMHO, I would use the Windsor engine if it was me. Lots more available and MUCH cheaper to build and drive.
