Kind of like the proverbial question about the bear in the woods? I'm trying to figure out what's up w/ my VIN: F10YN832489. The blue-oval truck parts site VIN decoder checks out as 2-wheel drive F100 (correct), assembled in Norfolk, VA (probable), but "Y" code didn't exist for '66...but did for '67 as 352 V8 (which my truck has...but truck is clearly NOT a '67). Could Ford have started using the '67 engine code in '66?
Also, the VIN is from the prior owner's registration, which is all I have to go on; the driver's door has been replaced (from a '64), so I'm curious about the Warranty Plate -- where is it, and will this also have the VIN?
I hadnt thought about it, but isn't there one on the dash panel ? or was that started later on ? Although that couldnt have been replaced as well.. but.
66F100Again, There are a lot of OTHER sites out there with OTHER information. Most of them have learned what they know from here. That is why this site is #1.
The Y for 66 is for the 352 V8 engine, and the N is for Norfolk.
Check your local State regulations but most will go with the VIN on the frame. Doors get replaced which is one of the reasons for going with the VIN on the dash. That part is seldom replaced.
I have a 66 purchased from the original owner and it also has the "Y" code. It is an original truck (352) and undamaged. I had wondered about the discrepancy as well! James Q
