I'm trying to figure out what's up w/ my VIN: F10YN832489. The blue-oval link I mentioned checks out as 2-wheel drive F100 (correct), assembled in Norfolk, VA (probable), but "Y" code didn't exist for '66...but did for '67 as 352 V8 (which my truck has...but truck is clearly NOT a '67). Could Ford have started using the '67 engine code in '66?
Also, the VIN is from the prior owner's registration, which is all I have to go on; the driver's door has been replaced (from a '64), so I'm curious about the Warranty Plate -- where is it?

The Blue Oval site is great, but like anything else, is prone to error.
The D code for '65 is correct, as the 352 FE replaced the Y block family of engines in the trucks. The FE was introduced in the cars in '58, so it was a well seasoned engine design by '65.
The Y code DID exist in '66 for the 352. It was also used in '67, but indicated the 360 for '68 and later, as the 352 was discontinued in '68 in the trucks.
For what it is worth, be sure to note that the 302 listed for '64 and earlier is not the Windsor 302 we all know. It is the largest CID Y-block, which was last used in the trucks in '64.
Now I am not perfect, nor do I claim to be. However, my data is from the original Ford books, not aftermarket repair books. I have a little more faith in them than in other sources.
Finally, your VIN indicates the truck was made in early March '66. The sequential numbers for March '66 were 830,000 - 843,999. Since these numbers appled to ALL variations of ALL Ford trucks made in March, including OTR, N-series, all F-series and any other truck type, it seems reasonable to presume that your truck, the 2,489th one, was made in early March.
Hope this helps!
