today i bought a 1966 f100 ranger with 69k actual miles and actually got to drive it home . it could use some restoration from setting out but it is for sure a real ranger and has no rust issues. it has the original bucket seats and the very illusive console. custom cab speedometer with optional gauges. the truck for sure has a 428 police interceptor with a 8f6 dated block with no casting numbers. c8ae heads . alumium pi intake. cobrajet valve covers. power steering and power brakes. made the 150 mile trip with no problems. truck spent 18 years in a barn before the previous owner found it. today was a good day for this ford crazy ba***rd.
the previous owner bought it from the new purchaser appx. 10 years ago. apparently the original owner transplanted the 428PI in the pickup. the motor is a 1968 police interceptor. correct block, correct heads, correct intake, even still carrying the pcv tube etc. the previous owner had it in his mind that the motor was originally installed at the factory by ford. i didn't argue with him. i identified the truck from the components. made sure it was a ranger. made the deal . stopped at the gas station and drove it home. it hasn't got much easier than that for me. motor is recently overhauled. got new door panels, new headliner, and a whole host of other stuff that he had bought for the truck. he was working on this truck for a driver for hiw wife but she recently died of cancer and he just wanted it gone. i wish i could have found it in that barn and it had not set out for the last 10 years but i am still happy that i found a real one in the wild and the PI in the truck makes it a sweet deal for me at least.
Enjoy! We recently aquired a 65 F-250 Ranger with no tranny but rock soid body from a guy tired of paying to store it. It needs a redo, but still has the buckets and console, an uncut dash and a near perfect bed, still has the paint on the bed floor as it had a camper on it most its life! Its the first Ranger I had seen in person, and even though the guy told me it was a shortbed with buckets, its still a nice truck!
