I've got a '66 Custom Cab. There is a factory hole in the dash just above the ignition switch. I have a hunch this may have been where the washer fluid button was once located. Anyone have any pictures of that area? The owner's manual describes that the washer is activated by turning/pulling th wiper ****, and doesn't even show the hole above the ignitition switch. And, my wiper **** doesn't even seem to go in the direction the manual describes.
So my question: what is the hole above the ignition switch?
I have 2 '66 custum cab pickups with a windshield washer switch. I don't have a camera to upload pictures, but there are a couple of simular custom cab trucks for sale on ebay that have pictures of the interior that show the switch.
I've seen some of the pictures on ebay, but they are never close enough to tell what's there or how it looks. I've definitely seen some with no hole, and some with something like a black button in the hole. Just want a close up.
I think I do, since mine definitely has the washer fluid bag and pump, and it also seems to have no way to activate the pump, and it also has a hole in the dash.
Mine has the whole and had the button in it when I got it, but it was disconnected. I took it out as I thought it was something previous owner had done. Any enlightenment as to what it actually is for would be great.
It says "air vent" and shows a pull type ****. Anyone have an air vent there?
For what it's worth, there is a similar "knock out" metal hole on the other side by the passenger vent window on my dash. However, this knock out has never been knocked out.
'61 - '64 used the knockouts for the pull vents.
The heating and vent system changed in '65, and they were eliminated.
'65 and '66 still have the knockouts, but only the driver's side was used.
The most common application for it was the button for the rocket powered ejection seat.
Thanks for that. I have seen that picture and that auction. (I think it's his second listing). The picture does show the button, but from the angle you can't see if there is any writing on the bezel. It could be a push button starter or it could be a washer button or something else.
I checked my original owner's manual last night, and it is different from the one JD Sylvia has in his gallery. Mine does not show either a button or an air vent or anything else in that area.
The button in one of my '66's when activated turns on a motor. Well at the time, the windshield washer fluid system was dry. So I filled the bag up with water just to experiment, pressed the button again, and after a couple of seconds, water came out of the two little nozels on the rear of the hood. I have only seen this setup on the custom cab pickups. At first when I intially purchased the truck, I thought that someone had "jerryrigged" this setup. But after seeing more and more of these "cheap looking little buttons", wouldn't it seem like this was an option to go with the custom cab package? I could be wrong, but both of my '66 custom cab pickups have them too. Also, both buttons in both trucks do not have any writing on them.

I have the same thing in mine. It's a CC also, under the hood is a wire with a flat female on it. Coonected to nothing as I have no motor or bag. If one of you guys has a working setup I'd like to see a pict. Not sure where the motor was mounted or what it looks like. A replacement bag I have seen and can buy a repop however they do not have the motor available. Be nice to know where and what to look for next trip to pick a part. TIA
