What parts to save?

I started working on my 47 tonner and bought a 46 tonner for parts (mostly the pickup box). The '46 is a rolling frame with dented cab, fair to poor doors, driveshaft/rear end wheels etc. What in your opinion is worth saving on the '46? I am moving this spring 400 miles and need to minimize transport costs. What are your thoughts? The 6 cyl engine is out of the truck and the head and intake are off. Is this worth saving? My goal is to end up with the 47 being a dependable around town truck. (PS I also have 2 extra hoods in good shape) Oh, I am missing a passenger side rear fender. Sorry for the rambling but I have looking for someone to talk to about this old truck! Tim

Tims47Tonner, glad you stopped buy, nice to see another Tonner here (I have a '47 Tonner Express). Save what you can. The frame is nearly worthless unless you can find the one guy looking for a 1 ton frame, and those seem very small. The 6 is usually kind of hard to get rid of since most prefer the 8, although the 6 is one very good engine, but the 8 has a much bigger following. I have a couple 6's that I gotta get rid of, but buyers are rare. May just have to give them away. Try posting the frame on some vintage Ford sites, such as Ford Barn, might find somebody there.

Thanks Gary. Kind of thought the same thing. Might save the intake, carb ect bolt ons from the 6 but otherwise think I'll junk it. Maybe the driveshaft and rear end is worth saving on the 46 tonner. Thanks for the info.

What about substitute rims for the 17" stock, is there a modern replacement?
