Install a set of driving lighting under your bumper and wire them thru a relay that activates when you put the truck in reverse.
Back up lights are not for the driver of the truck. They're not made to project light so you can see where you are going. They are for letting others know you are backing up.
I bought a set of back up lights from Cabelas, I think ACME also sells the same thing. Basically it's a set of 55W white lights, comes with all the wiring, switches and relays. I do use mine so I can see when I back up, especially in the boonies when there are big ditches or dropoffs behind you and you're trying to turn around in the dark.
Little Side bar to this. I think it would be cool if you dimple die a set of 06 round fog lights into the bumper as aux backup lights. I am considering some tint over my factory tint, so I am thinking about the same thing.
In complete darkness they work fine. Have some ambiant light around and they are not as good.
I bought a set of 55W lights from Advance Auto. They came with L-shaped mounting brackets I used to secure them to the hitch. I ran the wiring to a switch I put in the dash and used a relay and in-line fuse.

thats exactly what I did. one 55W driving light does the trick since all my windows are tinted and even with a backup camera, I cant see at night without a light
Thanks for the replies. I also use my lights to "see" when I back up - I thought that's what they were for - LOL! I'll check into these alternatives - thanks again!
You can also get 50 watt replacement bulbs for your stock lights. I wouldn't leave them burning for long, but they do make a difference. I've got some aux lights out back too, they are usually used for work though.
Hate to be picky, but a fog beam (shorter and wider) aux. light works much better than a driving beam (narrow and farther reaching) for this purpose. Unless, that is, you plan on going 40 mph on reverse . I know people often use the terms interchangeably. Just sayin'.
I've got some rectangular tractor flood lights mounted on mine. Look kinda goofy though, I think I'm going to get some cheapo Autozone projector fogs to replace them. A little more stealth.
