Newbie question
One of my friends called me last night from Kansas, we live in NJ, he has a 1999 or 2001 F150 4x4 Auto trans with the 5.4 engine. He said at times between 45 - 60 mph going up hill or level road the trans - he thinks starts to slip. is there any common things to do or have adjusted while out there? The truck has just over 100,000 miles on it. Would a fluid change help?
He is about 1200 miles from home, out there hunting.
Thanks for any help, great site.
Tim

He could have the fairly common torque converter shudder. Usually with that problem you'll notice a shudder as the torque converter locks and unlocks, usually in about the speed range you mentioned.
If the fluid has never been changed that would be a good place to start. It usually cures the torque converter shudder.
