Switching to Manual Transfer Case

What do i need to go from a Borg Warner 1356 electric to manual. I bought it today and need to know if i can rebuild it, what i need as far as electric connections, etc.
i have an AOD and the donor truck had an AOD i think. Any questions i should ask

The only electrical connection that you might want to make is the 4WD LO indicator. But with an AOD it might not even be necessary. The E4OD needs this connection to make changes in shift patterns but the AOD is not controlled by the computer so its doubtful that its necessary.

The question would be why was it in the shop in the first place? and WAS the problem fixed before the shop sold it to your friend. The rebuild kit can be had relatively inexpensively and from what I've been told the rebuild is pretty straight forward.

All the bearings and seals will cost you no more than a hundred bucks if you do it yourself. Make sure there is no burnt marks on the output shaft where the oil pump runs or the shift hub. Plus check the shift forks to make sure the plastic inserts are in good condition. Also check the chain for stretch (most shops will inspect the parts for nothing if you are buying the bearings and seals there). If you run into any problems - let us know.

not sure why it was in the shop. the guy bought it from the shop to part it out. THe shift rod is shortened and welded. I want to rebuild it before i put it in my truck. I looks pretty good other than the welded shift rod.

It's very likely the shift linkage from another model tranny was modified to fit on the AOD, since that combo of a manual-shift B-W 13-56 and AOD is not common, and the linkage is very hard to find in salvage yards. aSide from that, I remember reading a post or two about the oil pump mounting location wearing out on high-mileage cases (over 200K). Might search for topics on the B-W 13-56 for more info on how to repair that while you have the t-case apart. JSM84
