Cat on or off??

So, I just got some new Hooker Headers installed today on my 93 F150 I6
I am getting ready for the magnaflow exhaust and my question is this.

Since I dont have to worry about an IM, should I leave the Cat on or take it off?

Would I get a better sounding exhaust with it on or off?

Thanks for the help!! This is my first time with a project like this.

My '79 sounded a lot deeper and slightly louder with the cat off with the otherwise stock exhaust.

My 1992 I6 sounds deeper and has more power. The first thing I notice was when I was going to work the places where the auto transmission would shift out of Overdrive to pull a hill now it doesn’t shift. Gas mileage seems to be a bit better as well. Truck engine temp also runs a little cooler.

So, everyone seems to agree losing the cat is a +.

W/o adding headers, in Ohio area w/o ECheck (I shudder at the word), would it be a power improvement then to remove my cat?

Yes its a plus.

I don't know that you'll notice a significant power improvement but you'll get much better air flow without the cat.

On my 1992 4.9 SIX after taking the cats of and adding true duals with Cala. turbos my MPG increased from 15 to 17 mpg. There was a small increase in power. (I don't notice the tranney downshifting has much) I love the deep tone around 2,500 RPM. I't does not sound like a rice rocket or tracter. It is not a V8 sound it is a different sound that is what I like about it it dosent sound like all the ford 302 or the Chevy 350. These sounds are all too common. Th I6 sound is One of a kind!
