Just aquired a 49 1/2 Ton, and its a Merc, chassis has been blasted and painted, bed is from KS. all original steel as original, with rears same, front fenders from TX, also steel, running boards same, fresh Flatty, new brakes and steel lines, etc, etc.
Problem is that Ford and Merc fenders are some what different, as the Mercs have the park lamps on the outside of the headlamps, where as the ford, on the inside. Also I don't have the proper park lamps, for the Merc, I have the Grille and other trim, yet not enough to complete.
If I keep this truck and at this moment don't know if I will, as if you do up a Merc it should be done right. I am looking for an alternative to the Merc Grille, some thing maybe in a Stainless Tube, or what ever to fill the Grille area, other than the stock Grille.
I found a real neat little 51 F-1 on Ebay that if I go ahead with this, i would like it to be in the area of the same color.
Here is the Ebay Item Number if interested. 140025020163

I'd try to keep the truck all Merc if you can locate the parts. There are so few of them. If you can't you can always put an F-1 grille and/or fenders on it. I have yet to see a tube grille or any other custom grille that looks as good as the original.
Vern, your right the Merc is a great looking truck but try and find the necessary pieces to put one of these together. Believe me i have done one already and there are no repo stuff on these. That what makes them so difficult to get going on.
Anyway thanks for your reply, I will think on it, and who knows maybe someone will want to take on the job of completeing it.
