I'm a newbie in regards to transmissions and I have a question. I have a 1999 F350 4x2 crew cab dually diesel with the 4:10 and limited slip. I want better fuel milage and my mechanic suggested adding a 2nd overdrive kit instead of changing my gears to a 3:73, etc. He said I would still have the towing capacity of the 4:10's but the 2nd overdrive would give me the better fuel milage than the 3 ratio gears have.
FYI - I have the K&N FIPK system, Superchip programer and will soon install: 4" exhaust (down pipe through to tip with less restrictive muffler - no cat, my cat is currently plugged), change tire size from 215/75/16's to 265/75/16 Nittio Terra Grapplers all the way around and replace stock shocks with Bilsteins. I'm in south Florida and I sink like an anchor in our soft sand, including my driveway. Wider tires for flotation and taller tires for better milage?
What do you suggest on the tranny????
