Picture of MII and Ididit steering set-up

Hello folks,

I was just wondering if anyone has a picture in their gallery of a MII and Ididit steering column set-up. I seems my headers are right in the way of where the steering shaft should go. Still mocking up the engine and configureing the motor mounts to make sure everything will fit.

Thanks

Hi jeff,

I have the exact same setup.
My steering shaft went right thru one of my pipe's.
Now, my opinion: safety come's first.
I wanted to keep the shaft as short as possible, and the angle's of U- joints as little as possible.
So i went for ( after placing the shaft and U- joints ) rebuilding the header, and i'm glad i went for that option..
With the shaft in place and the header ( after rebuilding ) in place
it looked that there was almost no room for any aftermarket header.
Headers are cheaper and easily rebuilt, then while driving come to the conclusion that steering isn't working as you hoped for....

The more U- joints and short shafts, the more of a change to failure......

That's my idea of this setup, good luck with it....

The Madman is right safety first.

When I did my first 56 I also installed the Must 11 susp with a Ididit column. Had to modify the driver side header to miss the intermediate shaft, but I only had a joint at the end of the column and at the steering rack.

This one has a Volare with cast iron manifolds (I think they will be replaced with short tube headers this winter)

Not sure what engine you have but in both cases my are/were 351W's which have a one inch higher deck height then a 302 (which pushes the headers closer to the frame)

@ Chuck,
I also got a 1969 351W.

@ Jeff, here's a picture of the setup...

Don't look at the zinc coating, this header will be a example for the stainless steel version.....

Mark that's the idea. Nice job. My first one was a 69 351W this one is a 71.

I got tired of replacing the header to pipe gasket so I changed the ends to have the cones like a 90's era mustang (in fact I cut the ends off of a mustang "X" pipe) that was the end of the leaks.

Just looked at your gallery "NICE TRUCK". Really good clean work.

Rebuild the header pipe, I figured as much. Glad to see I'm not alone with this scenerio.

As always, you guys are awesome.
