Another question on door hardware

I'll be putting the color coat on the driverside door this week. So the hardware will go back in soon. The outside handle hangs down at about the 8 o'clock position. Is there anything that can be done to get it to horizontal?

door handles

The handles on my 41 have different shafts. Both are square stock, but I accidentally switched them when I was working on the doors. It left a problem like the one you are describing.
It turns out that someone had twisted the square stock the handle is attached to to straighten the handles. If you put them on right it looks just fine, but if you mix them up they are all out of adjustment. It probably isn't the right way to fix it, but it looks like all they did was put the shaft in a vise and crank it around a bit until the handles were straight again. I'm sure there is a right way to fix this, but this worked for my truck and I'm not going to change it until it stops looking good.

Thanks, that is a simple idea I hadnt thought about. Seems like it would be easy if the square piece is heated up. Sure would hate to ruin a new door handle though.

they come apart.

On mine, the square shaft is held into the handle by a pin. If you drive the pin out you can set the pretty bit aside while you bend the crap out of the ugly part. And if you screw it up too bad, its just 1/4 inch square stock.
I modified one of these handles for my garage door, and with a little file work a standard garage door handle shaft can be made to fit.
