Just returned from Ford with a new "upgraded turbo", 2nd one in less than 2000 miles. Ford tech hotline stated that "with low miles the vanes rust/seize". I was told to drive it hard at least every 2 weeks. I am retired and don't put that much miles on it, 5-6K per year of mostly highway driving. The upgraded turbo, I am told, has a taper on the edges to prevent rusting and seizing. Upgrade has come out in the last few months. I wonder what excuse they tell people who put 20-50K miles per year? Prior to 1st turbo replacement, Ford replaced 2 VGT's, EGR, EPB & MAP plus right bank injectors. Suppose to meet with local Ford rep next week. Have ask for a new vehicle at no cost to me. I know thats asking alot but I replaced my 17 year old 6.9 diesel for this lemon because I didn't want reliability problems. I have had more problems in 15K miles then in 130K with the 6.9. Looking for suggestions or comments.
its no secret that the 03- early 04 6.0 litre diesel had multiple issues. I am a firm believer that the problems with the diesels now are things that arent in the control of the motor( fuel quality, tech qualification and ability, tech use of proper tools, tech following of diagnostic procedures) Many techs are commonly told by management to do the fast thing instead of the right thing. The replacement turbo has recesses machined in to prevent vane sticking.
So vloney,if i have a vgt in my 03 can I get my turbo replaced by the recall for the new style of turbo with recess ,it's out of warrenty but the only recall i had done was the new flash for rough running and cold start problems.
