'06 Exp With Warped Rotors

I was driving my '06 in rather hilly interstate mountains through WV and MD today. Some downhill stretches require serious braking at 70-80 mph. It is obvious the rotors are warped because of the severe vibration.

My vehicle has about 16000 miles and is under warranty. I need to get something done. Should I try for new rotors and pads on all 4 wheels or what do you guys recommend? I know the dealer will try to turn the front rotors and do little else if I don't insist. Is there a new and improved rotor design (my vehicle was built in May '05)?

i do beleive the ford had a problem with early built rotor.there is a tsb on the exp/f150.the rotors dont have enough gap between the pad sufaces so ford opened up the vent area on the rotors and redesigned the callipers.your dealer should rewplace both rotors and callipers for free.if they run an oacis report for your vehicle they shouldnt have a problem.

03 Expy had issues with the rotors, so they came out with better ones. Would have thought they would use the non-warping on the newer models, but of course that is not always the case.

These Expys are heavy and are geared high enough that they coast with little resistance from the engine and drive train. As big as the hills of Va. and W.Va. are you will heat up a set of rotors in a heartbeat trying to hold these things back.

You need to do what I do on a long hill, which is take the tranasmission out of OD, and if you are going slow enough shift to second. The engine braking will go a long way toward keeping the pads and rotors in good shape.

I drive mine here in the hills of NC this way all the time. I also have an exit ramp here at home that is down hill all the way to the stop sign that I always shift out of OD for.

Hope Ford helps you on the rotors.

Thanks guys,

I'm tech, my dealer is going to check for an oacis report. I might just have to settle for turning the rotors--the vibration is nonexistant at 50-60 mph.

Yardbird, I guess I'll have to adopt your technique when engine braking in OD doesn't stop the EXP from running away downhill.

Is an Expy transmission made to handle engine braking? Seems that replacing rotors/pads would be cheaper than a transmission.
