I haver a 2001 3.0 ranger with 75,000 miles. It is great for zipping around town but has no power at top end. I did the fuel filter, cleaaned injectors, plugs and wires but to no avail. i took it to a reputable shop and they claim that i have 4 bad cats.
I have never had a check engine light.
I can see the logic in the back pressure froma faulty cat causing trouble.
How are cats tested?
Are they welded inplace?
do they all go bad at the same time?
do the O2 sensors need to be changed as well?
Any help you can give is appreciated.
John
You most likely have a y-pipe assembly with four coverters integrated into the assembly.

Since you have no CEL illuminated odds are, no. A DTC should/would steer you in the direction of O2 sensor problems. Did the "reputable shop" check for codes?
