hard to start when hot

i have a 1970 pickup with a 240 6cyl and a 1bbl carb. it has a manual choke. when i go out of a morning to start it up i just hit the starter, no choke or gas, and it fires right up and runs great. when it gets hot, like after i go somewhere and cut it off, it has to grind about 5 or 6 seconds before it starts. It seems to me like this should be reversed.

Could be the starter. I had a hot start problem and the cure was a huge battery (1000 cca), 2 ga. cables and redundant grounds.

What do you mean "grind" does the starter grind or does it take a while for the engine to start? Are you running points?

the starter is turning just fine. it just had to turn over several times before it starts. and yes it has points

I'm not sure, this may sound crazy, but could it be your carb???Perhaps it is getting too much fuel when hot and it has to crank more to burn it off??? Just a wild thought.
