My sister just got an '06 Mustang ragtop and I've been assigned the task to obtain a roll bar for it. Ford offerss what they call a 'sport bar' which appears to be more decorative than anything else. A local 'add-on' store has one that is metal covered with plastic, but it is also not a true roll bar. We certainly do not want or need a competition bar, but would like one that actually offers some resistance to 'flat-topping'. Any ideas, comments and/or recommendations?
If it isn't a "proper" (as defined by NHRA for example) cross-braced bar, or cage, it isn't going to do you any good. "Decorative" bars are called that because to call them a "roll bar" opens the seller to liability in the event of a roll over, and justly so.
Convertibles don't roll over easily. Drive it with some regard to traffic laws and enjoy.
If that's what she wants, Autopower makes a bolt-in street bar that is not a "style bar" and not really a full roll bar either. My thoughts on this, if I were to get it, I would pay someone to put a nice paint job on it match the car.
