I saw a truck in the Leaf River once, but it was only a Chevy. We came up the river after checking trot lines and found the roof of a truck obstructing the boat ramp. I was driving a 77 Chevy at the time, and it wouldn't hold still on the boat ramp, unless you chocked the wheels, so I felt some empathy for the guy.
It's a lot easier than you might think to fail to put a car in Park...
I once nearly ran myself over with a Jeep GC; I got out in a hurry (left the engine running) and was directly behind it when I realized that I'd shifted to Reverse and jumped out, and it was idling backwards. My 14-year-old sister was in the front seat, but she didn't know what to do. I was able to get in and put it into Park before it hit anything.
We had a guy back his boat into the water and got out to bring the boat around and the pin snaped on the tranny for park. His 5 year old son was straped into the car seat as it was going in he swam out and got his son out. The cops sighted him for failing to apply the e-brake.
When I get bored I like to visit all the ramps in the area and sit around for a while and watch what ignorance and an alcholohic stupor will do to vehicles trying to land or launch boats.

My Wife will go up and ask if the need help backing their trailer up to their boat. Most get upset and than she backs up beside them the first try with the pipes rattling a little. A lot of them won't even look at her after that.
Never seen a car go into the lake. I do wonder however, why after people back their boats down to the water, get the rear truck tires wet, and then goose it when pulling out. Seems the last thing i would want to do is break traction. I always drop mine in 4h, just for good measure.
It happens a lot in Cayuga Lake near Ithaca, NY. Asked a friend of mine why he had the doors open on his Amigo...yes he did... Someone is always leaving the drain plug out of the boat too.

My personal favorite is when the tide is low and they back their boat up and unhook all the straps and pull up and back up real fast and slam the brakes trying to "jerk" the boat off the trailer. When the ramp is already all wet it is fun to see the look on their faces when they slam the brakes and keep sliding down the ramp.

Definitely. It's hard to talk to the insurance claims guy with a straight face and explain how a car backed itself out of a driveway, crossed the street, hopped a curb, and hit the building across the street. (Not me. One of my tenants did this, but I had to talk to the claims guy) The tenant's explanation - "I'm used to driving sticks. That one's an automatic."
