Angry 42-47 Cab 40 Front Group

I bought what I thought was a project 1940 pick up. Turns out the cab is a 42-47 and the hood and fenders are 1940. From this point what year running borads, rear fenders and bed am I look at to keep with the 1940 look?

From what I've seen the 40-47 cabs are pretty much the same, and the beds also. If you look at the rear fenders on a 42-47 they don't match the front fenders, they match the 40. I would think all the 40 parts would fit .

Thanks Eric that is what I was kind of thinking too. However, on the site I see that this question has come up before about mixing 40 sheet metal an a 42-47 cab and frame and some say that this can not be done. This project has already been chopped and has a Mustang II crossmember. At this point I don't think that modifing the frame horns if the difference of an adjusment lies in the area is impossible. I know this has been done by someone in the bizillion year of hot rodding. Is anyone willing to cast a light on this one again. There is an old saying "Custom Car (Or Truck) Custom Problems!

Well the frames are definately different, the 42 was supposedly the first TRUCK ONLY frame. But I can't see that as being much of an issue. Your obviously doing a restomod so a little tweeking here or there isn't a problem. As long as you don't mind a little fabricating it should be very do-able.

The frame is different up front, the '42-'47 had a 2 inch longer wheelbase and a bit more over hang on the frame from what I have found online. This swap has been attempted time and time again. It's of course going to be easier to use a '40 frame if you could, but the later frame, which is a much different frame than the '41 and prior, could be made to work. There was a guy or 2 here who had done this swap, not many though. If you can, find somebody who has a '41-'41 and check out their frame for mouting points, etc.

Thumbs up

Gary,

Thanks for the info. I have placed my modified 42/47 frame for sale on this site and the Ford Barn and have been trying to do the same on the site you started but never received a notice via e-mail that I was considered to do so. Anyway since you are in Orange County and I am in Oceanside I thought letting you know about this frame would be a good thing. I have chopped cars, sectioned them etc. and gettig the front group of a 40 on this cab wouldn't be that big of a deal. But, I want a 40 Ford Pick up and even if I got all of this stuff together it would never be registered as a 40. So, I am offting this frame and once I do I will start searching or a 40 Ford Pick Up frame to modify, Mustang II etc, etc. Again thanks for the input. John

Just in case you are planning on running the 42-47 bed is wider than the 40-41,rear fenders are the same except for the fact that the 40-41 had a gas filler in the rear fender while the 42-47 was in the cab corner.Running boards are different where they meet the fenders as well.
