The upgrade of my '68 f-250 4x4 to a rear D70
(etc.) is proceeding very slowly. Soo...
Can anyone give me a quick help on what a correct
4x4 Dana 70 U-bolt configuration looks like?
Are the U-bolts oriented in the "upright" position
or the inverted position?
Are the U-bolt bends "square" or "rounded"?
Are the U-bolt brackets stamped or cast?
[I believe the 1967-1972 trucks have narrow leaf springs
while the 1973-1979 trucks have wider leaf springs.
I stayed with the narrow springs by default
on my '68 during this upgrade, though I wonder
what others might have done in their axle upgrades...]
yup, and it should have 3.5" tubes. if your ubolt retainer plate on the top is shot, the ford dealership (as of a year or so ago) stocked new plates for it (they are for 3" wide leafs though).
you should be able to get a newer plate from a 2wd F250 as well, they have 2.5" springs, I believe.
