Official 300 sound clip thread.
please try to keep any questions/chit chat out of the thread, this is for soundclips only, this way it doesnt get cluttered up. also could a mod please sticky this? since its one of the most asked questions here.
alright, i have been doing a lot of research and talking to people and i want to sum up everything i think i have come to. please throw in any and all suggestions.
i have a brand new 300 straight six in a 93 f250. fuel injected. it has been bored 10-30 over (reman engine). somehow i got ahold of a carbed head. i have efi exhaust manifolds. i want to cut off both cats, y the two manifolds into a 2.5 inch pipe. as close as i can to the y, i want to put a magnaflow muffler si/so and run it out before the passenger tire. if it sounds a little raspy, i think i will buy a 2.5 in universal cat and stick it on there right before the muffler.
what are your opinion? did i compile all of the information pretty well? i know this has been beat to death but i wanted to be sure of my setup before i spend a bit of money. thanks everyone for all your help!
I know this isn't a sound clip, more of a question...perhaps this post would generate a bit more responses if it were a combination of ?'s and sound clips. i like where you are headed with this though. i agree, should be turned into a sticky.

as soon as i get it done, i will post the clip...it may be a little while because i am also working on the body right no.

i reckon u'll be fine, as long as the engine is in good tune.

originally, i was going to y the two manifolds together on my 93 f-250 (fi). i was then going to run 2.5 exhaust into a highflow cat and then into a magnaflow muffler.
i took it to my exhaust guy to y the two together...all the parts and labor only cost me $25 even. after the y, i temporarily ran the 2.5 inch straight out. while i liked that quite a bit, i thought it was a bit too loud...i just didn't want to get pulled over. also, it was a little loud in the cab (i couldn't really talk to my girlfriend on the phone).
i had a 2.25" magnaflow muffler laying around. though i know it was not the right size, i held it up tightly to the y and had my brother rev it up a bit. this seemed a bit too quite for me, while it still sounded good.
my next step was to put on a small glasspack or get a highflow cat to help take some of the harshness out and maybe quite it a bit. instead, while i was on a cruize, my brother took it all apart and built a glasspack/silencer. he put it all back together. when i got home, i was surprised by a nice sounding exhaust. i took it all off (at the time, a lot of it was clamped together) and welded everything up nice and tightly. i put it back up and laid down a bead of weld to finish it all off. i really like the sound of it. wide open, sounds awsome. if i just rev it in park, it just sounds ok. today i am going to be outside doing a bunch of work, as usual. i will try to take some vid's with sound so you all can get a good taste of what a homemade glasspack sounds like on a straight 6. i will also try to draw up an idea of how to make a glasspack, for those of you who are curious. thanks for all the help with the exhaust everyone...it has been a long process.

again, what i have is a 93 f-250 rebuilt inline 6, bored to about .03. it is fuel injected with the efi manifolds. both manifolds are y'ed together into a 2.5" pipe. as close to that y is a homemade glasspack. 2.5" the rest of the way, dumping before the rear end.
one video was an accidental video i think but it gives you a good idea of what the truck sounds like at a normal driving speed and idle. you also get a decent look at my younger brother's car and our blue f-350 diesel in the background.
i hope you can get some good ideas of what it sounds like. there are some background noises that tend to interfere. if you want me to re-record something or would like a recording of me driving it in some other way, let me know.
let me know what you think.
thanks.
chris
