Has anyone used a northern auto parts engine rebuild kit? I called about one today. For everything below its $488.25. The comp cams kit is an upgrade over what would normally come in the kit. For the price it looks like a good deal. The parts are the same number that summit racing lists and northern's prices are a little bit cheaper. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

sounds like a great deal, i've heard mixed reviews on moly rings though: i heard they were great for strictly racing engines, but most of us mere mortals would be best to stick to cast rings. anyone more knowledgable than me want to shed some more light...
I used one of their kits in the 351 I had rebuilt and installed in my 63. It was a good price and my rebuilder didn't have anything bad to say about it. I also chose the moly rings and the only thing my rebuilder said about them was that it made a difference in cylinder wall finish on final hone, and that was all. As for running on the street, I had absolutley no problems with them.
They were no cheaper than flatlander for the engines I have rebuilt, so I went with them instead. However, I know 15 or so engines that have been rebuilt using northern parts and none of them have had any problems. I am helping a kid rebuild a 302 right now using northern parts. No problems so far.
