Interesting. I too want to know why not just straight up. Is there not room there?
Do you mean optima battery by any chance? Red and yellow tops are automotive. Blue top is marine (i think).
The sealed cells make the battery spill-proof, even if you install it on its side!
Their website says what AX said.
RED:
If your battery is used in vehicles that demand extra reliability and performance, or if you just take pride in getting the best performance out of your vehicle, OPTIMA RedTop batteries deliver the performance you demand.
Yellow:
If your vehicle has a lot of accessories like running lights, high-performance stereo/AV system, winches, or hydraulics, your vehicle demands more from its battery. OPTIMA YellowTOP batteries provide the extra performance and deep cycling capability that your vehicle demands.
It's hard to really see what's going on with the angle of the picture. If it's what I think Keith is doing, it should look nice from the engine bay area with plenty of room for that sweet looking engine I wish I had in my truck . It'll definitely be one of kind, and you won't see it once the fender is mounted. From the pic, it looks like you have tire clearance. Not sure if you want to go with larger diameter tires though? Pretty creative if you ask me. Nice work.
Look at the truck, That should answere all of you questions, I think this truck is in the works as a custom peice of Art-Abstract maybe, not realism Beautiful work!
Keith,
Once again, very interesting.
I have been eyeballing the rear of the passenger side inner fender on my 49 as a possible location to do the same thing.
omni-optima whatever its the red top one.
more pics in the gallery plenty of wheel clearance.
Tucks in real nice and wont have to remove the carpet to get to it.
Seeing the picture, I've always wondered why no supplier has offered a "modified" inner fender set which takes advantage of all the wasted space under there.
Just can't find anything bad about this set up Keith. Another great darkside idea with superb fabrication. Do you ever sleep at night or just lay awake dreaming up these great mods?? Jonathan
I would think (if THAT means anything) that the advantage to this position is that a door/cover could be fabricated that would be almost invisible and make the battery accessible at the same time. What's not to like?

I see the wheels turning in your head, (Or smell the smoke) When will you be starting on yours?
