Bracket HELL!

Ok,
So I get this great idea and figure since I have a few bucks, Im gonna place an order at summit. Im gonna pickup a new Alternator (one that looks cool, and puts out more amps) and get a new (but cheap) chrome bracket. I mean whos wants to put a nice new shiny alternator in a dirty bracket?

Anyhow, I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to figure how the damn thing fits in, shims, bolts, and cant figure it out. I JUST came to the conclusion that there is no way in hell that the alt I got is going to work in the bracket I bought. I seem to have the worst luck with these damn brackets. Did Ford switch the dimensions of the brackets twice a year or what? This is a main reason Im going with Manual steering on my Volare front clip. I cannot for the life of me get a PS bracket to fit my application. And its looking like I may have to stick with a janky welded ALT bracket as well.

Im done for the night, and very frustrated! Any help/ suggestions?

Rich you probably got one of those universal chevy alternator brackets from Kragen didn't you. Sorry just had to have some fun at your expense. What was the application for the alternator. Also you can run the Ford PS pump with the volare gear you just have to have to get a Ford end on the dodge pressure hose. There are lots of places here in town that can do it for you. You did a good job figuring out your radiator mount I don't think an alternator bracket will get the better of you. Good luck and if you need some help give me a call if you still have my number. The pump isnt the problem, its getting the bracket that HOLDS the pump thats the problem.

As for the application for my ALT brackets: With my specs, it should be the right one right?

Hi Rich,

What brand of bracket did you buy? I saw your specs but didn't see a manufacturer. I picked up a "March" brand billet alum. alternator bracket for my 5.0L from Summit and it fit really well, but it was $50. How "cheap" is "cheap? I see they have a few chrome plated ones listed for around $20 but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't work.

Good luck. - Brad

The one I bought was 18 bucks at summit. I opted for a $60 march setup, and the specs were what I was looking for. Should be here in the morning.

I dunno.
