My 93 7.3 L IDI non turbo has injectors with E code stamped on the flat. What is the down side if any of installing a set of new D code injectors. What do the codes mean?
The injection nozzles between the two engines <92.5 and >92.5 are similar in design, but have different flow rates. D code are for older 7.3/6.9. After 92.5 they went to E code for IDI and G code for turbo IDI. The highest pressure of a D is below the lowest allowed of a E code.
Operation
A metered quantity of fuel passes through ducts to the pressure chamber located just above the spring seat. At the instant the pressure of fuel acting on the differential area of the valve exceeds a predetermined spring-load, it lifts the valve from its seat and fuel flows from the nozzle. Fuel cut-off occurs as the valve is seated by the nozzle spring. A small amount of fuel leakage to the spring cavity is necessary for lubrication. This fuel leakage drains through to a leak-off outlet.
Nozzle opening pressure and spray pattern should be inspected every 96,500 km (60,000 miles).
Well, since I have a new set of D injectors, (the shop that sold them sayes there is so little differance that they only carry the D's) OK as long as you keep all 8 the same. When I install the D instead of the E should I turn down the fuel adjustment on the IP, if so by how much. If I were to buy a spare IP to run with the D injectors should it be a 4821 rather than the 5013 currently installed.
My truck has 239 K km on it so I'm trying to get new injectors and rebuilt IP organized as oportunity for good deals $$ wise comes up so I,m not stuck paying top dollar at the dealership when the time comes. Thanks for your input, I really value this web set and everyones input.
