Accelerating Hard

Question
I have 99 Ford Explorer with 105,000 miles. I am pretty good about my driving my vehicle, but is it bad to punch on the gas to get to the desired speed that you want to get to ( besides it wasting gas ). Is it hard on the engine for accelerating fast.
I usually don't take off fast from a stop, but when I am on the highway, I don't hesitate to punch the gas to get up to desired speed or if passing vehicles, but I did not know if this is hard on the engine. Should you really accelerate in a more gentle manner until you get to your desired speed?

Like you said, not great for fuel economy. It will put a little more stress on the drive train, but overall I don't think it should be a problem as long as you're not over revving the engine.

double post

i'm sure your going to get all kinds of answers on this one.... but im my opinion, a well kept engine (proper maintenance) and tranny won't be harmed by accelerating hard. i speak from experience as i drive my explorer like this and my mustang gt as well.... (V8 in both).
