I picked up a 2002 f150(very happen with the truck)in march of 2005. About a week ago(Jan 18 2006) i took it in with the problem of the battery being drained. i was told that water leaked in somehow and has corroded the fuse panel terminals and had caused them to short out. I would be very interested in hearing from any one else who has had this happen and what my steps are in correcting the problem. Is this an overlooked recall from ford
Hi and welcome to FTE! Be sure to read this to help you around this site: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...88#post3272088 There are also State, Provincial and International Chapters located near the bottom of the main forum page.
We are glad to have you. Hope you enjoy the site. Check out the various forums. Lots of great info for you.
If you search in here you'll find quite a bit of info on the problem.
Usually you have to replace the fuse box and the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) which is attached to the back of the fuse box.
The most important thing is to get the windshield resealed so that you're not wasting your tim and money by having to do it all over again.

Yeah, I just had basically the same water leak on my 2002 F150 Supercrew. The mechanic indicated it was a small leak in the sunroof/moonroof seal. I had to have the fuse panel and GEM replaced, as well as correcting the supposid leak in near the sunroof seal/alignment. I received the old replaced parts, and had a good look at them. To me there was no obvious signs of shorting, or corrosion, which makes you always wonder. Anyway the problem is fixed. Seems to be like a design flaw, that shouldn't have ever happened.
I've pulled apart a couple of the fuse boxes and could then see the corrosion in them.
It seems that if there is enough water in them to cause them to short then it wont be long and they'll be corroded too.
not currently having any problems on my 02. any tell tale signs to look for?
I did a search as suggested and couldn't find anything specific to this problem any suggested keywords?
Usually if a GEM and fuse box has water in it you'll have strange things happen such as the heater won't shut off when you turn the key off. That's the most common thing I've seen.
If everything is working how it should be don't go looking for problems

I'm not Chicken little, on the other hand, knowledge is power. Like if I'd known that a 2002 vw bug would wear out brake pads and rotors at 55,000 miles I wouldn't have let my daughter buy one.
